The Most Fashionable New York City Fashion Scene is not as traditional as one might imagine. While there are many big fashion names, such as Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein, and Donna Karan, many others have largely faded from the scene. Instead, new names are pushing in from the edges, often with little classical training and fresh, brash energy.
Tiffany’s flagship store
Tiffany’s flagship store in New York City is undergoing a major renovation. The expansion, designed by OMA, will add a three-story steel-framed structural addition that rises above the 72-year-old Art Moderne building. The renovation was originally expected to be complete by the fourth quarter of 2021 but is now set to open in spring 2022.
The New York flagship store is home to many of the iconic items from Tiffany & Co. The store is located on Fifth Avenue and has been in business since 1940. The famous store was made internationally famous when Audrey Hepburn starred in the movie “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.” The store features the Tiffany Diamond, a large collection of fine china, and a cafe where customers can enjoy a delicious breakfast.
Foo and Foo
At the Foo fashion show during New York Fashion Week, Bella Hadid wore an outfit that only she could pull off. The model donned a striped button-down, baggy jeans with silver studs, and a black leather belt with silver rivets. She kept her hair in a braid and used natural makeup and a bright red lip.
The daughter of Tommy Hilfiger, Elizabeth Hilfiger launched her own clothing line in 2016 called Foo. It is a playful take on American style with punk influences. The designer’s Fall 2018 collection was the first physical presence of her collection, held at the Lower East Side Manny Cantor community wellness center. It was a refreshing break from the hectic New York City fashion scene.
Joseph Altuzarra
Joseph Altuzarra, the celebrity designer who launched his own line of ready-to-wear clothing in 2008, is one of the hottest names on the fashion scene today. His elegant floral gowns are influenced by his international education and multicultural upbringing. Altuzarra has since received numerous awards, including being named one of Forbes’ 30 Under 30 and the BoF500. His designs have also been featured in many high-profile events including the Met Gala and Amazon’s Making The Cut. His ability to combine art with fashion has made him one of the most sought-after young designers in the industry.
Altuzarra’s label has a Parisian perspective, which has been interpreted with a New York flair. His designs are wearable, with a sense of ease and gusto. His label embodies the effortless style of Parisians and the brash attitude of New Yorkers.
Lazaro Hernandez
The two partners, Jack McCollough, and Lazaro Hernandez founded their own label in 2002. Both were working on their final thesis at the Parsons School Of Design at the time, and they had just one portfolio between them. At first, they tried to convince a fashion house to hire them, but in the end, they decided to go it alone.
Proenza Schouler is an established luxury fashion label. It recently returned to New York Fashion Week. Their spring 2014 collection featured resort elements, demure themes, and sculptural details. However, their fall 2014 collection was more conservative and sophisticated.
